Dictation Do’s and Dont's

OHAdmin have listed some quick advice points below on how to make your highest quality dictation today:-


Do not

  • Record in noisy surroundings – background noise can be very intrusive and often drown out the voice
  • Please do not mumble, or speak in a hurried, rushed manner
  • Please do not eat, drink or chew whilst making your recording
  • Do not shuffle papers or make loud sudden noises during your dictation
  • Do not forget to ‘sign off’ by stating “end of dictation” at the end so that we can be certain the recording has been received in full
  • Make your recordings whilst washing up or clattering crockery – yes it’s true, we have listened to the evidence!

Do

  • Say a quick hello to us at the start of your recording
  • Do remember to pause slightly before speaking when you start and pause before stopping, this will prevent your opening and closing words from being clipped.
  • Let us know which document template to use at the start of your recording
  • Make sure you are in quiet surroundings, free from interruptions
  • Do speak clearly and at a regular pace
  • Do spell unusual words such as medication names, medical diagnoses, names and addresses and anything out of the ordinary
  • Do remember to add punctuation
  • Do remember to “open” and “close” any quotation instructions
  • Say a quick thank you at the end of the recording
